I walk the path before me
cut with each step I take
the fog hung low like my heavy heart
but it wont break
A shadow creeps behind me
so close that I could feel
a chill so cold just like a ghost
a breath upon my heels
And yet a familiar feeling
like that of an old foe
the walk of a tired demon
come to take me down below
I realized when I heard the dogs howling
like a siren trying to take me home
in my pain it burned away
but that echo still remains
of a life I walked away from long ago
In mud and sinking quickly
no solid ground, alone
thought I was safe a sorry state
was all I had to mourn
All those empty winters
trapped me in your hold
the flames like rage in your embrace
so sick but not alone
Oh faithful companion
that sorrow in your cry
now I run from what I'd become

At night I still hear them dogs a' howlin
